Simple Move: Syncing steps with Apple Health and Health Connect

If you'd rather not log every walk by hand, your phone can take care of it for you. Connect Simple Move to Apple Health on iPhone, or Health Connect on Android, and your steps will flow in on their own.

Just a heads-up: automatic logging only kicks in once you've connected and granted permission. Until then, you can add steps manually anytime (see the article on How to use the Steps tracker).

On iPhone: connecting Apple Health

  1. Open the Nutrition tab and scroll all the way down to the Steps section.

  2. The first time you reach it, you'll see a button to connect Apple Health.

  3. Tap it and follow along with the on-screen prompts.

  4. Grant the permissions when asked.

Don't see that button? You can set it up from Settings instead:

  1. Open the My plan tab and tap your profile icon in the top-right corner.

  2. Scroll down and select Account & Support.

  3. Tap Connections.

  4. Tap Connect next to Apple Health.

  5. Grant the permissions when asked.

On Android: connecting Health Connect

  1. Open the Nutrition tab and scroll all the way down to the Steps section.

  2. The first time you open it, you'll see a button to connect Health Connect.

  3. Tap it and follow along with the on-screen prompts.

  4. Grant the permissions when asked.

How your manual and synced steps fit together

  • Once you're connected, your daily total brings together the steps from Apple Health or Health Connect and anything you've added by hand in the app.

  • Steps you log manually are shared back to your health app too — and if you delete one in Simple Move, it comes out of Apple Health or Health Connect as well.

Steps not showing up?

If your steps aren't coming through on their own, it's usually the connection or permissions. Pop back through the steps above to make sure both are in place — and in the meantime, you can always add your steps manually.
